 TORO MUERTO PETROGLYPHS

Toro muerto's petroglyphs are located 160 kilometers northeast of Arequipa, in the province of Castilla in Uraca's Village, 650 meters above sea level.

There you can see 5000 enourmous stones; stony, anthropomorphous blocks, fitomorfos, zoomorfos and geometric shapes representing the flora and fauna. The technique used varies upon the force of the strokes, scrapes and the percussion in each rock.

These antique rocks are about 800 years old and cover an area of 5 kilometers long by 250 meters wide. You will require between 2 - 3 hours to visit the area.

The most ancient figures attribute the Huari and Chuquibamba Culture with 800 to 1000 years A.C. It is the most important set of petroglyphs located in Majes’ Valley. The Toro Muerto’s rocks are the gological ages.

Toro Muerto is considered the biggest repository of the world.
