Since 1970, people can visit the Santa Catalina convent,
considered one of Arequipa’s major tourist attractions.
It was built in the 16th century and is 20,000 square meters. It
includes a big temple, cloisters, cells, fountains, an art
gallery, gardens and important murals. The entrance to the
convent was prohibited to the public for about four centuries. |
